think i'm getting somewhere
I want to work the shoe in with a patterned backing to reflect the era its from, I think by picking up on iconic colours the audience will have a quick understand of where its from, although i think by blending the two together the illustrations would work, once shrunk down a lot of the understanding is lost, hoping i will find a better way to make this work...
ideas...
I can see how this idea could work really well but i'm not sure if its possible for a stamp collection because its so small, the idea is to use each stamp as a decade, with the shoe that most represents it made up of key facts of those ten years.
this image was the 60's most famous for the world cup win, the shoe is made up of a tower block which became huge within this decade, think i could be really overcomplicating this idea, sure there must be a way to simplify it...
stamps
by using the surroundings of the postbox a whole frame is created, i've been constantly thinking of six individual stamps but there are ways of using just one image, opening up my ideas a lot further. the first set of stamps shows just how important the placement can be, without the background they seem like small film adverts? but with the backing theres a kind of irony that comes forward.
70's fashion

I saw this on the tv and found it really useful in showing the key 70's pieces, I am unsure of how I could illustrate them best but found this video interesting anway.

block colour
I mentioned below that I think block colour could be a good way forward to illustrate the stamps because there so small and need something strong to make them pop out. Here are a couple I've tried out;
the image above was taken from a 70's book i found, there's something really calming about the whole decade, the colours seem really muted, everything about now seems so depressing, if i take the stamps back to the 70's it will give the same audience the same feeling...
v and a...
I will put up the illustration of this dress in a little bit, think because of the block colours it could work well when reduced?
every time i found an outfit i realised it wasn't english but i found a section with costumes from music tours like the above from Elton John and below was Adam Ants, theres so much publicity with Elton John the stamps could even just follow his outfits he was so famous for?
