I said I really want to work on my typography in this brief, and found Alan Fletcher really inspiring because of his use of text and image.
Tuesday
lecture
we just had an interesting lecture on a lot of typography artists and illustrators, i've been thinking about layering my images up and came across Raoul Haussmann when I wrote my essay which had a lot on the dada movement, but think his images are so strong because there are so many elements.
poems...
I mentioned below I would like to use a poem to work with the illustration, heres a couple I have found that could work well:
DESIRE OR HOPELESS DREAMS
My mind often wanders
from reality to my desire,
and I find it hard to retrieve it,
back to the daily fire.
It let's me keep my sanity,
by planning for what might be.
But, I go a little overboard,
often getting lost in dreams.
So far I've found no guidelines,
other than those imposed by me.
Still these grow vague and disappear,
when I think of what could be.
I search for a good dividing line
between desire and hopeless dreams.
But society provides no answers,
and I ponder what's too extreme.
Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves. ~Henry David Thoreau
Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering. ~St. Augustine
zine brief
this zine brief is only a couple of days longs and im really looking forward into getting into it fast, we have to take 6 photo's and in pretty much anyway we need to create a narrative from them, illustrating over the top.
I have to do the same walk everyday from my car to uni, which seems to get longer each day. And so thought it would be a good way to go to form my zine around it. I just took these images as I walked back, im thinking i will work them against a poem to illustrate them, following my thoughts and the weathers i've walked through. Here are some of the photos:
they look really simple at the minute, and pretty much the same, but I think this will work in my favour when I try to illustrate over them, adding my own thoughts to illusrate.
draft and final designs of my website homepage
The bottom image is a a further development from below, we were told to make the website we would want to visit and although I really like like the simplistic designs, I think I needed to create something that really stands out, and so wanted to re-create the business of london within my page.
This is my final design. When I ask for peoples opinions they though the lower one had to much going on, it was hard to focus and that was before the text! so I've modernised it by adding the track (idea from the underground) and making the illustrations at the bottom smaller, Im pleased with the design, but if the brief was longer I would of liked to of created my own typography for it.
home page designs.
these are a few of the homepage designs i've been trying out, on the bottom one the text is actually raised but once scanned in it can't be seen, so these are all things I need to consider. I want to develop the top one further as at the minute i think its the strongest.
text for the website
Something i've wanted to try for a while is typography, and because this brief is really personal I think it gives me the chance to try out something new, above i've tried a few of my own designs and used a previous illustration to work the text over.
web design
This new brief is really fast and is to create the homepage for our own website. These are a few of the ideas i've been trying out, all of my illustrative work is normally hands on so working on something computer based is something new im looking forward to trying.
I don't want to over complicate the website, and so these designs about where each link will take you will hopefully help me when I come to actually forming the homepage.
