Wednesday

-just a quick link to work by Nikki Faraquharson, love how she uses photography with illustration, makes me realise how there doesn't always need to be a clear divide at all when they can work together to make an even stronger image.

for a while i've wanted to use photoshop a bit more so I understand it a lot better, and so by scanning the images in im able to edited the colouring slightly as well as making the book easy to reproduce.

Tuesday

the brief

What are you aiming to communicate?
Many people often presume that a beautiful exterior means a beautiful personality and values as a person, through a modernised version of “the ugly duckling” meets “cinderella” this brief aims to communicate how even if you are the minority, you should stand proud as a person and not let critisism of others stand in your way if you are happy.
The narrative will be communicated by following the traditional “ugly” duckling, yet by modernising the ending he will not transform into a swan, but keep growing his own unique fashion style, that eventually leads him into love with the queen who has been hidding her own unusal style for fear of not being accepted. The ending will have the whole community wearing what they want without the fear of being judged.

 - i've been thinking of using these characters to form masks or a play set for the children to act out the story themselves.

Wednesday

jabbawockeez-reference for masks

A mask can obviously completely change the appearance of a person, so i was thinking if i created ones that reflect a person in a completely different light they would gain a better understanding of how some one else must feel. This was a link i got from a friend of a dance group, that wear masks in all there performances, they have the opposite effect, creating them to be united as a whole.

- if i made masks to fit around different cultures they could be for schools to act out the diversities of societies.

Monday

unique...

This poster really focuses on the more negative side of standing out from the crowd, but i love the simplisity behind the image.

Being unique

http://www.smashingapps.com/2008/06/04/15-digital-photo-manipulation-from-flickr-to-get-inspiration.html

Just found this link and this picture taken from it while googling around, think the effect created on the face creates a really powerful image. I immediately related the image to my topic for this self initiated project, thinking of the cracked paint as revealing the true person beneath the surface?

okay! I really need to define my brief basing it on being proud of being unique can reflect on fashion too...
